Over here in NZ, they just bench tested a Hyundai engine for 300 hours at the limiter then switched it off and stripped it to find that it was in perfect condition.

I dont know whether that is good or not really but it certainly sounds impressive, even though I still wouldnt own one.

The test could be viewed live at the location it was being tested but I didnt go.

Ben.

jesus, 300hours is a long time!

Fair strong engine that. Dont think a vaux engine would last 3 hours, never mind 300!

i bet most modern engines would do that, the redline is usually set way below an engines breaking point for safety reasons.

think it was just meant as a publicity stunt imo

I would of thought it would of gone bang after 30 seconds like on NFS Underground in drag mode.

common thing to do, lots of manufacturers run similar tests.

they dont run it bouncing off the limiter, just under it so it is at a constant revs, no reason why it should go bang at all. as long as its cooled and lubricated properly (remember it is out of a car on a lab type testbed with no loading on it) it will run for a lot longer probably.

its when engines are forced to change revs suddenly (hitting a limiter) or backing off then back on at high revs that kills them or when they are under load.

I thought it was quite impressive, not an amazing spectacle but interesting all the same.

its was an old banger we use to race around a friends farm, we had an accident and couldnt shut the engine off and could not suffocate it as the engine was banged up asgaisnt a tree and it had no exhaust (off at the manifold) so we waited for it and then bang it went after 10.49 seconds (yes we time it ) sitll there to this day may have to go get some pics
