Looking at both of them for in the summer. Not driven either yet, but been a passenger in a GSi and was impressed, but that was a while back .

Basically it's deciding between a late Gsi with low miles, and an early VXR.

Main differences personally are VXR looking slightly better and being slightly quicker, but it's not £5k's worth of difference.

Is there much difference in the way it drives?

Main difference is the 6 speed box on the VXR which makes it far more punchy and a lot more enthusiastic to drive, handles better, but I'm sure a well sorted GSi on coilovers would be just as good.

Err, interior is better on VXR with the black roof lining and trimings but seats in the GSi are just as sexual its just what you prefer.

VXR sounds better, looks better, GSi to a certain extent is more exclusive. For every 10 VXR's I see I would see 1 GSi.

Its whether you want to spend 5k extra on a better car to start with, or spend 5k less and spend a couple of ££££ making the GSi just as good.

Up to you.

Any cases of putting the VXR gearbox on the Gsi? I've always had a feeling the gearbox on the Gsi should have been a 6 speed, and it was the main reason it was slower off the mark than the CTR on paper.

Thats the trouble with the GSi, it was an after thought.

It uses the F23 gearbox which had been around for years, had it been developed properly with the 6 speed box found in the VXR it would have been a much better car.

I'd take the GSI and tune it up, I like the VXR's but i'd prefer an individual modified GSI.

GSis are getting cheaper these days and as already been said possibly less common than VXRs.

I paid less then 10k for mine just over a year ago - that was one with HIDSs, Leccy sunroof and SatNav.....so if you look hard enough you can find them at sensible prices.

£10k is top book price really - so worst case scenario.

There was one that was advertised locally to me the other week with 15k miles, FVSH, and was at a vaux dealer and that was going for £10.5k - went within a week though!

Clean, standard sub 40k models can be had for around the 8k mark .

Good thing is that the corsa should cover 50% of the value of the car, so i may just get a loan for 12months, blitz the payments and be done with it.

There's not too many reviews of it really, and none that seem to compare a VXR ro a GSi which is odd IMO. That said most reviews do comment that it's an under estimated car, and has gone un-noticed by most hothatch fans.

I think it might be the sensible choice for the time being over the VXR. Insurance is £300 cheaper, tyres are half the price, and I'd be more inclined to do my own servicing, where as i think i'd want vauxhall service history while the VXR was in warranty. Have to consider it as i'll be doing fairly high miles in it .

Any ideas on the kind of performance increase ro expect from a stage 1 re-map? Have looked at Thorney motorsport's Stage 1, and it's quite different to most re-maps as it improves midrange performance and not top end, which sounds like a better idea to me .

I would start with the GSi as well, you can always get a VXR at a later date.

It does go un-noticed because it was brought in just as the Mk4 was coming to an end. Its a lovely car though, best in arden blue of course.

Drive them both, you won't then.

But yes, GSi is just as nice to look at as the VXR.

Yeah, they kinda missed the boat a bit really considering they'd been putting the engine in the coupe since 2000, and took them 3 years to put it in the hatch - by which point the civic/leon/clio were already doing well.

Do really like the blue, but i'm starting to lean towards silver because of the extra subtlety of it .
