My dad always has something to say about perfomance exhaust systems these days, he calls mine and my brothers 'a bit disco', referring to the stainless in rolled tailpipe. I agree though, I want a purpose built performance exhaust with a straight bit of pipe no different to the rest of the exhaust just cut off for a tailpipe, like you see on most race cars. Why dont they make them like this or stock them. Are they all custom jobs? A couple of the novas at brands had such exhaust and was wondering what brand they were?

Racing Developments in MK do them, they're REALLY quiet.

Broster's mate Jim has one on his Nova and it just doesn't make any noise

DHdevs and that white nova both had them, its very motorsport, how it should be. Ive always been curious as to why no such exhausts tend to be readily available these days.

Mainly due to the lack of market for them I suppose. People buy an exhaust to make the car louder, not thinking about the fact that a 3" system with a 9" tail on a 1 litre Corsa is going to halve the power

I'd say most of the PROPER exhausts you see are custom.

I might go custom, that or a peugeot sport job. I feel like a chav with a 3.5" tailpipe.

I spoke to Bic about his system, its a custom job from france. Quiet as hell aswell, all the noise is in the bodies. £700 though iirc!

Off the shelf systems have stainless back boxes which are overly loud and are fancy compared with purpose built systems made for performance which are pretty much just a cut off pole of metal.

So basically The diameter of the whole bore from front to back would be the tailpiece?

Yeah the bore of the tailpipe would be the same as the rest of the system, would still have silencer/s though

Not only that, the exhaust would be made the correct bore for the engine, with the right number of silencers and the right size pipes on the manifold, not just some random bits of pipe for noise.

I had one on my Nova, it was really quiet (but is was a 1.3 SR )

Mine was the 'competition' one, as opposed to the standard one too
