a filter wrench, unless its a 1ltr 12v.......in which case a 32mm socket iirc

i stabbed mine with a screw driver and then used that like a lever

screwdriver never fails if you dont want buy a filter wrench, remember its rh thread as well

As said.
Smash a screwdriver all the way through it(at the edge so you dont hit the filter thread.
And use that to turn it.
They should just come off by hand if it was fitted with the oil seal oiled slightly.
