For those that know norwich was going up mousehold this evening in rachels car. Came to that twisty bit before the lights at the top and this pug 306 on the other side of the road goes around the bend and suddenly changes direction and flies into a volvo in front of us. the pug spins and does a 180 and sits there motionless in the road, the volvo hardly moves as its a tank lol but the front side is smashed in pretty bad and the driver cant get out.
Sitting there in shock for a moment as it happend so quickly, go flying out of the car and see if the woman in the pug is ok, she gets out of her car not a mark on her, but the pug is fcuked, front completely smashed in dripping fluid everywhere, i cak myself and wonder if its petrol.
Anyway we helped the guy out of the volvo and phoned the police. scary thing is if had left mine 30 seconds later it would have been our car that was hit by that pug. REally bloody lucky imo.
Not 100% what happened as it was so quick but i think the pug 306 came around the bend a little bit to far and she lifted off, overcompensated by a mile and launched herself into the volvo.
Thats why ive never bought a 306 GTi, i know the lift off oversteer would get me. Anyway no fatalities but scary shit seeing this happen about 25 metres in front of you

Lift off oversteer can be fun though
I know how you feel mate, couple of months back two cars collided and one flipped over and landed next to me. I was first on the scene and ran over to help all four people out, 2 injured, one quite badly. Its not nice a nice experience at all.

fwd, front engined with rear torison bar setup is the culprit i think.
106`s and 306`s probably best handling cars in their class but they can punish you.

I followed one of those GTi-6 affairs not so long ago (I think the GTi-6 is right?)
At pedestrian speed into a T junction the fcuking thing oversteered a full 180 into my path....
I've never driven one, but I sort of assumed it was driver inability coupled with a short ratio 6 speed box?

I've had a couple of hairy lift off oversteer moments, you quickly learn not to do it.

Accelerating round a corner, then mid-corner you take your foot off the accelerator which means the weight distribution is pushed further to the front of the car, making the back end lighter and less grippy... meaning the back end 'steps out'.

Oversteer is where the rear wheels are skiding and you go sideways...
Understeer is where you loose traction on your front wheels and you keep going straight when you want to turn....
thats about as simple as it can be told.
Now lift off over steer is where you turn in hard and at the same time lift off the throttle which in FWD cars will provoke liftoff oversteer

You would think so, but then I used to own a 106 which I managed to spin going round an island the once... totally took me by surprise as I didn't think I was going all that fast... road must have been greasy.
Although, I have witnessed someone in a Saxo oversteer on the same island, and drove up the island too!

thats why you have to be careful with them in regards to tyres, shit tyres on the back and you don't even need to be going fast.
