Don't know if you have heard about this but Ken - more barking by the minute - Livingstone is planning to use tax payer's money, your money, to build an enormous mosque costing an estimated £100M in Docklands. It will be BIGGER THAN ST PAULS The plan is for the mosque to be so big that people flying in from all over the world for the 2012 Olympics will it see it as the biggest landmark in London even though Muslims currently make up a mere 2.7% of the population (hard to believe, isn't it, considering how much attention they're given!) Wouldn't it be better to spend the money on hospitals, transport facilities, the Olympics, libraries, education, loft insulation - or Battersea Dogs' Home?? Do we really need another temple to yet another dogmatic middle Eastern religion?
Take a second (literally) to cast your vote in The Evening Standard on-line poll to determine public opinion about whether a mega mosque should be built with your Christian / atheist money.
The vote so far is 62 % in favour. It looks like the Muslim community is casting its vote in droves, and as usual the rest of us are burying our heads in the sand....
After voting, forward this to as many people as you can. Here's the link:

Ironically, people flying to a disproportionate allocation of tax payers' money will see another one en route.

Plans by the Muslim sect Tablighi Jamaat to build the mosque have aroused concern as the group has been accused of drawing young men towards an extremist version of Islam.
thats a quote from the article
doesnt say its coming from the public money at all

If they are going to give 100M to building this then they should be spending money on the other big cathedrals which are struggling to pay for thier own repairs and now have to get visitors to pay because otherwise there is no income.

The proposed Mega-Mosque will be the largest place of worship in Europe, a gigantic three-storey Islamic centre, with schools and other facilities, able to hold at least up to 70,000 if necessary.
When television viewers around the world see aerial views of the stadium during the opening ceremony in six years' time, the most prominent religious building in the camera shot will not be one of the city's iconic churches that have shaped the nation's history, such as St Paul's Cathedral or Westminster Abbey, but the mega-mosque.
The backers of the mega mosque are the Tablighi Jamaat, a missionary organisation that says it is non-political and peaceful. Yet a senior FBI anti-terrorism official has called it a recruiting ground for al-Qa'eda, and the French secret services described it as "an antechamber for fundamentalism". Much of the funding for the Markaz, which will cost about £100 million, is expected to come from Saudi Arabia.
Significant opposition has already arisen in Newham, with Christians and Muslims alike voicing their concerns!
Please note that this is not anti-Muslim - we just want an open date, and democratic process over the way things will be managed with this proposed building!

I agree, but don't forget this is "multi-cultural britain"
How many new hospital beds could £100M get, or schools, or new roads, or helping the homless, or helping old people that fought for this country. What a crock of shite.

Are they not familiar with the concept of a single basket and all of one's eggs?
Seems a not particularly strategic thing to do considering the possibilty of retribution against the site.
