Ive just received a bill for my Corsa's MOT and I think they're having a laugh!
Basically I had a 50pence sized hole in each cill that needed plating, a touch of welding on the front cross member, the anti roll bar bracket needed welding as it had snapped at the bracket, a new tyre at £63, and the rear brake lines needed changing, I also had tracking done(£20ish?). Materials excluding the tyre came to £54. My total bill including the mot test has come to £547.32! Am I overeacting or this a lot of money for the above work?

They do all my works vehicles, he also said it wouldn't be to bad and not to worry! Guess his idea off not to much is completely different to mine, judging by his charges he must be f'in loaded! In hind site I should have beat a quote out of him but as I need the car to get to and from work and to price up jobs, I needed it done asa. As they do all my works vans, cars etc I thought he might ok on price. I haven't payed yet, or even rung him yet, im gonna ring him later.......after ive calmed down a little!

ask him for an itemised invoice detailing costs of materials used and hours of labour charged.

lets say:
welding and finishing materials: £40
2 hours for welding @ £50 per hour: £100
new tyre: £63
rear brake shoes: £25
labour to fit: £50
cleaning materials: £5
tracking: £20
mot: £40
total = £343
total inc vat: £403
still a bit pricy then

Ok will do, the labour comes to £310.50 but he hasn't said how long he's worked on it which I really need to know. Seems like he either taken ages to do the work or he charges a fair bit per hour. The materials prices seem reasonable, £10 for a brake cylinder, £5per brake line inc fluid and £10 for welding materials. He also did the rear wheel bearing which I forgot to mention but that not really a big job to sort, the bearing kit was only £10.

Thats the sort of price I was expecting, around £400-£450, out of the 3 corsa's ive had this ones in the best condition and its cost the most to put through the mot! It is 14 years young now though!

£310 for labour for that?

works out at about 6 1/2 hours.

Ok, ive had a chat with him and there was some extra welding done, there was a fair bit of rust on the arch/inner panel? behind the rear shock that was really bad and needed a fair bit of plating on both the inner and outer skin, plus both chassis legs at the front had gone pretty bad so needed plating. He's said he charges £23/hr so it works out at 13.5hrs, he's also letting me pay it off bit by bit as ive just payed for me holiday so am broke as at the moment! I think the extra welding makes makes it seem a bit more reasonable but im still gonna check if its all waxoiled up nicely and that he's done as much as he says. Ive still to get round to putting the 2litre in yet.....I hope the car holds together with all this welding!

Mine was the same last year £550 loads of welding done, both chassis legs, inner rear arches, front cross member, brake lines (turned out they were just a bit dirty but s/s ones on anyway) Had to get a custom cat made up for it too bloody emissons test. Oh yeah I had no rear reflector either and im sure there were a couple of daft things.
Putting mine through the MOT on wednesday assuming I get the fucker to start before the lol
