Well sorry for this essay but for anyone who cares it has been a good weekend...
Went to view that saxo VTS on saturday, luckily i got a lift off my dad as it turned out to be a shitter, looked really nice but there was oil all over the engine bay, block and gearbox, had 2 completely slick tyres, clutch was on it's way out and the fucker wouldn't move on the price at all! so it was a long disappointing drive back.
Got home and decided to go for a cheaper car too last me a few months and fix the pug.
Found a few but were all sold, then a nice 3 door mk 5a ford escort xr3i was on autotrader for £600, got my mate to take me too see it, and it was so nice i got him down to £550 but it is probably worth alot more, he's had it since 2000, is a member of the xroc and has an rs2000 and is a member of the rsoc so it's been looked after, interior is absolutely mint, has a rare RS steering wheel, mint wing back recaro's, had really gay blue metal check mats which are now in the bin! It's a 105bhp 1.8 16v but it still has a bit of pull!
Then today decided to go and get the VTS wheels that were for sale on SSC in birmingham! So that was another long drive, the scort was amazing though, 100mph all the way and doesn't miss a beat. Got there and the wheels are as mint as the fella said, adcertised for £210 but got them for £200, don't have any tyres but they are immaculate.
Just got in! Now considering getting a multicar quote and keeping the escort as a 2nd car as i really like it! Might get it lowered and stick a set of 15" mondeo 5 spokes on it!
Anyway, that was my weekend, thanks for the advice some of you gave me, and i probably owe a few inc jr some bet money due to not buying the saxo but hopefully jr will let me off as i bought a FORD!!! Will get pics up in a bit if the flash on my cam works as it's pitch black outside!

I really like the scort, just done 320 miles in it and it's done me proud, need to find out what steering wheels it is, it's leather, very chunky, 4 spoked, has an RS imprint and 3 stripes, green blue and dark blue.

The saxo looked gorgeous, it really did, from first glance and from pics you'd think it's a minter, and it's been removed from ebay so maybe some plum brought it today, i was really angry and had a right go at the bloke as i told him it's a 2 and a half hour drive for me and he said it's mint, the 2 front tyres were totally bald! Then he weren't even going to take of the price of the tyres so i'll told him to fuck himself and drove off.
Going outside now to get pics!

i agree with ya! It looked so nice, but it was a shitter, and the lad was such an idiot, it's lowered 50mm, and his excuse for the bald tyres were (standing at 6ft 2) "it looks like they have tread from here" i explained to him in no uncertain terms he was a badger.

really poor but it gives you an idea! And remeber it cost me £550 and it's 100x better than that sax!

Spent the morning sorting out the rev counter as it wasn't working, turned out after a quick inspection the needle was underneath the stopper thingy so just pinged it over and as i have got a Clarion flip out dvd hu very cheap i thought i'd stick the sony hu from the pug in the scort as i was tuneless which was crap!
Oh and it has a pipercross induction kit and a piper back box! Think it's blowing though so will investigate tomorrow! Will swap over the incution kit with one i have as the one on it is drenched in oil!

only rust on it is surface rust on rear arches (which will be covered up by the cossie rep rear 1/4's ) and a bit on the bootlid where the spoiler is! MOT till end of Sept and tax till April i think it's an absolute bargain and i'm over the moon with it!

the interior is mint! I might get it all sorted out, i have a few hundred and really would like to keep it as a 2nd car! Apparently it's really rare! being a Mark 5a and it was the last xr3i! as i was standing in the fella's kitchen siging all the paperwork he took 3 calls for it!

Also after driving a VTS there is a bit of difference between it and my 106, the steering is ALOT lighter on the saxo, and even though it had a decat and was 'chipped' it felt slower than my pug and there wasn't much gain at 4500rpm where my pug takes off. Just an observation!

ive had two 106 gti's, and my mate gots a vts. they are practically the same car.. however i accept your point about the steering being lighter in the saxo.

Now this sorta makes sense, 2k on a Saxo to smoke about why you get your car MOT'd would have been silly, but £600 on something to tide you over isn't half as bad.
So, you made the right decision, you just better pray that nothing goes wrong with the Escort
