I'm more of a nintendo fanboy than anything tbh the only console i play is the snes, no wireless controllers no poofy meeting place to make up words like n00b no high def just god old fashioned pixelated graphics and shite gameplay

the fact is, i can got go out and buy a PS3 (import it may be but still) and get a HDMI cable that will allow 1080p. Don't see microsoft doing that? Apparently it's in the pipe-line but sony gives me the option, microsoft doesn't! 
And before you go all "you sonyfanboy" or something more brain dead to that extent, im firmly on the fence with this as i believe both have there pros and cons.

its all well and good saying the 360 handles games at 1080p, but the PS3 can not only handle games at 1080p, it can also play films back at 1080p and sony offers a digital connection to do it with. Two things the 360 can't do - though apparently microsoft are making a HDMI cable. People have been saying that since it launch a year ago

no, MS have said when they see demand, i think its a clever way to boost sales.
TBH you wont be watching many films on a PS3 when blu ray has failed much like Betamax/UMD

I think the biggest problem is there is no best console. The wii is in its own market to the 360/ps3 and the 360/ps3 are both very similar. I doubt either will dominate the market like the ps2, they will both continue to have a fairly equal market share
