Loads and loads of rumours flying about that Hicks have sacked AFL (architects who designed the new stadium) and have employed some London based architects to redesign/build upon the new stadiums design.

Main reasons flying about are that they want a larger stadium (figures from 70-90k have been mentioned), more executive features, better facilities for fans, etc.

Im hoping its true as was very disappointed with it only being 61k and with no chance to expand it (especially when we have 56k waiting list for ST's) but it could mean an even longer wait until its built and possibly moving to another site to build it.

It'll never be 90k, not a chance.

Anything around 70k would be ideal IMO. I read the new owners wanted a Kop type stand too, to keep the tradition. Here's hoping it'll be an original design, and not another Arsenal/Benfica clone.

yeah, 90k is a silly amount. Id say 70-75k would be perfect, and easily filled.

There is already going to be a Kop type stand, just one single tier at one end so like the kop is now.

Sounds good! 90k is a bit much. Would cost far too much too.

yep, same here. Just depends on the council as I think they set 61k as the limit to what they would give permission for. But then again, with the threat of regeneration money going elsewhere if we move they might just give planning for 70k!

some more rumours coming out now...

Work on the new stadium is to be delayed while the possibility to building an 80k seater stadium is looked into. Could mean upto 6 months delay until work starts, but IMO would be worth it.

IMO it won't be any bigger than 60k... it is the established rule of thumb for stadium size before costs escalate dramatically... its why we opted for 60k... to increase by another 10k would cost some stupid amount apparently!

yeah, this was one reason we went down the 61k route.

But if Hicks and Gillet are wanting to make us into one of the worlds great teams then I think we'd need bigger than 60k.

If they are happy to pump money in at least u wont have quite the location constraints that we did, would be good to see some more mega-sized stadiums

location is the main problem. We dont want to move away from Stanley park, yet the transport network round there is rubbish.

Would mean having to create new transport networks in a very heavily residencial area, aswell as take up more of the park. Probably looking at atleast £400m for the stadium if they did go for it.

The guys who designed our 61k one (AFL-UK) have designed this one for Dubai.

How much would you pay for one of those apartments looking over the pitch
