my headgasket has gone and i have had various prices, But however 250 is my best price from a guy who works in a vauxhall garage "LOOKERS" as a mechanic so he claims he knows his stuff! He has sent the head to his brother to be skimmed as he is a mechanic engineer! is this right can a mechanical engineer do this and pressure test it also? just wondering need help on this! thanks jay

Well just take it to your local machine shop for that. Not expensive at all. Doing it yourself you could definitely do it for under £100, thats with new head bolts, head gasket and getting it skimmed.

yes......well he could very likely skim it.
only a few engineers can pressure test a head.

How can you comment on a price if youdont know what the job is?
Also the 1.4/1.6 16v's have a habit of going across the water jacket and number 4 clyinder you can see this on the gasket so whats the point in pressure testing?
Have you ever heard of a 16xe head going porous or cracking?
