A mate just asked me why the handbrake in his MR2 points skyward...

Anyone know? I can't work it out

ps. mine was the same its meant to be like that, possible because of the layout of the cab & the build of the transmission tunnel its got to sit a bit further up.

There must be a specific reason for it though, seems odd for to do it because they can't do it another way... they'd engineer round it, surely?

It just does Robin.

It's to do with the location of the lever and console in relation to the position of your arm and elbow.

It's also to do with the fact it's located on a transmission tunnel that is much higher than in most cars, and much MUCH higher than the floor of a FWD car where it would be located.

it wouldnt be comfortable to have a normal up down when your sitting below the handbrake lever. That is the most ergonomic design
