I started as a Drawing Controller (distributing technical drawings on paper and cd,electronic filing) in a design office in March 2006. As I had no previous office experience I was taken on in a junior role for 2 weeks, this was extended then 4 weeks later the guy I replaced came back and my role was reduced considerably and I was shoved in a corner in the office and my role now was almost non existant were it not for burning cds and printing, creating pdf's.
An extra role was created in Estimating to type up and send out enquiries, mainly because no one else wanted to do it. the Estimators don't give a fuck and never have everything ready for me, the printers chew everything up and never get sorted. Last week I sent about 150 differant packages out and 140 today. Most on paper and some on cd.
I asked for a pay rise in November and he said ask again in Febuary, I did and he said ask again in 8 weeks.
The guy that came back has now left and I've moved back across, yet I'm still doing the enquiries, I've now found out that they're replacing him too. I've also been on a course to use some new software.
I had another word today and he said I was stuck with the enquiries and that I wouldn't be a drawing controller full time, he also said I couldn't have a pay rise unless I did more, I currently use 6 differant programs in both roles, as well as helping out in the print room when needed. Theres not alot more I can do, considering I'm juggling 3 differant roles. He said he wouldn't consider me for a trainee CAD role either and if I didn't like it I'd have to reconsider what I was going to do.
So now I've been told that the role I have is just that and I'm not getting anymore money. I'm on 12k btw.
For interest the programs - OCE Electronic Job Ticket, OCE Indexer, CDS, Mosaic, Scandocs

I'd TELL them to give you a pay rise, or you're leaving.
What are your hours?

Sounds like my last company
I was assuming the role of Assistant QS, Estimator, Buyer, occasionally jumped to the maintenance dept & even front desk to cover any sickness etc and all while being the bosses skivie - Wont even go into detail some of the things I was asked to do on a personal level. I asked for a pay rise & some changes to be taken aboard or i'll walk, they said no can do....so I did
That was last june, im a college now

Is that all???
I used to get made file old drawings in the loft (up a dodgy ladder into the roof space) & somehow keep a system for placing work we got / didnt get / complete etc & keep it for 5yrs...nightmare!! Often got flung the keys of a car & told go fill up with diesel, drive the boss & MD places........I even had to pick the son up from school once!! Go to the shop to buy food if there was anyone in a meeting, unload vans into our store room etc etc Best ones though was when he asked me to pick the family up from the airport at 6 in the morning & when I got called to his house & asked to swap the wheels round on a van we were selling.....in my suit The fat wank thought he owned us
Get enroled on a college course, engineering or something like that, work up til it starts then leave them high & dry

Well I won't be rushing from now on.
The enquiry I'm doing at the moment is massive, 40 pages all with atleast 6 companies on. theres so much spec/drawing to input IT had to reprograme Mosaic Tomorrow afternoon off so I'll be typing as slow as possible

Forgot to mention, I was told I could have a small role in IT as they needed an assistant. I thought this would give me experience for other things. That never materialised and they got a temp in.

Only you know whats best to do bud.......im chasing something else in the hope of bettering myself, I origanally started in that industry however so have hopefully enough knowledge & experience to get me where I want to be.
If your content with what your doing (correct type of work you see yourself doing), you maybe need to give it a little longer, ask the boss if you can have a chat & see if you can get a small rise to reflect the cost of living since you started 12months ago + get some kind of plan ironed out on what your job is & what you need to do to progress...maybe a 12 month plan of some sort. Its all office politics at the end of the day & sometimes they make it as hard as they can for you. I fucking HATED working in an office........will never do so again!!

I was a Fabricator for 8 years so going back to manual work isn't an option. I was on atleast 16k doing that. He said theres a review in April for June salarys, but I can't see them giving me anything but the usual inflation. He said to keep on having these chats with him, but nothing would be done. So don't think I'll bother

If they wont give you a decent rise, then look around at college and see what courses they have that interests you.
I was doing very similar work (mainly skivvy CAD work and office stuff) for a year or so while they was paying for me to be at college.
I was earning 9k in the first year, 12k by the second, 16k by the third and im currently on 23.5k now.
Im going to ask for 30k in Jan, and i feel confident i will get it because i its the going wage for the other 2 chaps who do the same as me (well almost).
Go to college and get a bit of paper that gives you some leighway. Then you can argue for a rise. If not, another company will be willing to take you on so long as you have the bit of paper.
I did a HNC in mechatronics (engineering).
