I had a 1.4 Sport, but it was difficult to insure.
A lot of people go for the 1.2 SXi, which has all the bits from the sport (electric windows, sports seats etc) but is cheaper to insure.
£1500 should get you a decent one

the 1.0 12v isnt too bad, it can cope with pretty much everything apart from going up hill.
it might be best if you get a few insurance quotes to see how much you will be paying on insurance, you never know you might be able to afford a 1.2 16v or 1.4 16v

I had a 106 xsi for my first car, was good on insurance tbh, on my own through adrian flux it cost £1400. But it was a J reg.
A 1.2 16v corsa would be a good first car, but if you can afford to insure a sport then go for it!

i insured a 1.6 sport for £1100 as my first car, although i had been driving my dads car for a year and managed to get a years named driving experience and pass plus etc.
my mates just bought a 1.2 16V, not bad for a first car etc, fast enough and still cheap insurance etc. the sxi's come with the better spec too etc

My first car was a 1.4 SRi 16v but was expensive to insure at 17!! I have found my insurance has over halved in price though with 1 years no claims.
Have you got £1500 for the car and insurance or just the car?
