mate asks me if i want to go see Enter Shikari, so i listen to it and it sounds awful.
i cant understand why little childeren shout so much!
which got me thinking, 90% of the music i listen to is 9+ years old, the mid - late 90's was such a good period for rock/punk/metal music.
i think music of these genres are going through a dodgy patch, im sure it will return at some point.
thoughts? agree, disagree?

depends what you listen to in all honesty i mean if your like me and have a broader taste in music then its swings and roundabouts.

That was uncalled for, I have no problem with you, the fact you are trying to defend the undefendable however, did.

I 100% agree Steve.
Music these days is so 'faddy' and the bands only last for a couple of albums, then do a 'best of' then fuck off.
Look at Bad Religion and RHCP, been going for more than 25 years now and still pretty mainstream. Or 311, eleven albums and been going for 14 years with the same 4 members, No-one left, no-one joined.
Thank god that Cornell fella has left Audioslave and Zach is joining again to reform Rage Against the Machine.

I've always had a very eclectic taste in music but have found that the majority of mainstream music has been pap for a long time.
This wouldn't affect me but for having to suffer commercial radio at work and being punished with the likes of James Blunt and the Scissor Sisters
There are some good bands around, they just don't get a lot of exposure. I've always preffered it that way, so I don't end up hating the stuff that I like by hearing it 7 times a day for 9 months straight.
A lot of what I like is fairly niche so it stays fresh for me, and there is a regular enough supply of new material to keep me happy.
Live music plays a big part for me too.

Audioslave = THE shittest idea in music this century IMO
Come on! It was RATM with a new singer, or SoundGarden with a new band. Not a whole new band altogether
I hope they're fiercely political again

That annoys me as well, I like whatever music I like because it sounds good.
Unless i'm pissed I don't think oh wow this song so sticks it to the man, i'll wear make up and slit my wrists and wear stupid clothes.

This whole music debate has taken place for decades, do you think your mothers and father thought the Beatles and Elvis were great?
It's not just music it is everything else into the bargain, you grow up listening, smelling and feeling the things that you parents liked and you grow an attachment to it, just like your parents did with their parents.
At this moment in time we are going though a great time in British music - particularly Indie, I think people should maybe embrace it a bit more rather than try and shoot it down as being insignificant in the grand scheme of things.
