i work for spirit aerosystems as an aircraft fitter, its ok, good money for drilling holes and bolting bits together

they used to be bae systems aerostructures, who were originally british aerospace.

build boeing, airbus and raytheon parts.

its a good industry to get into as theres usually jobs about, if my work goes tits up i'll go contracting and make some mega moolah and see the world

My bro does avionics for airbus, did his training with DARA but the time delay on the a380 is seriously threatening job security now so if you're gonna do it, do it quick.

I used to work for a company that did that.

The work is sub-contracted out to them? What aspect of the company would you be working for: manegement, on the shop floor?. Personally I found it long hours but the pay was alright (it was only a summer job)

tbh, when i was working within the industry. Most of the guys were saying that areospace manufacturing is leaving the country pretty quick. Due to lower costs in europe and elsewhere. So if its not a decent company, you may be jobless sooner rather than later

I take it they use CNC machines and its fairly automated? Have you got the training or will that be given to you as you go along?

fair enough.

I really enjoyed my time whilst i was working there, found it really rewarding as i was on the shop floor too.
Sounds like your seriously considering it mate and tbh i would too. Some engineering companies work saturday mornings (at least the one i worked for did) so you may not get away from that.

Why is GE servicing RR and CFM engines i can understand the P&W thing because of the collaboration between GE and P&W as the Engine Alliance, but RR and CFM are seperate companies...
