Got some problems resolving addresses for our logging purposes. Basically the CS server looks some stuff up before writing to the log so that when we read the log the information is better and we can do haxxor trace stuff quicker. That is causing me the most problem tonight for new member signups but you might notice it elsewhere. This one is out of my hands a bit, Tim is aware and assume will get on to first thing tomorrow.
In the mean time, everything else is normal. As some people have asked I'll answer it, we did have a power failure in the server rack which was resolved within 19 minutes of it happening. Did mean that we were down for about that long, the backup power system did keep the site alive for a bit but unfortunately the battery ran out before the power returned which means we had some down time plus a disk check when the server came back up. It came back up normal, all files and data are fine according to my best information.
Rest assured we are of course going to throw more money at the situation to ensure that we're not in the embarrasing position of 19 minutes downtime any time in the future. This brings our availability down to a shamefully low 99.9996% which as you will agree is not 100.
The other question on everyone elses lips is of course search which I'll be totally honest has taken a bit of a back seat. I'm being inspected in work next week and I've a best mans speech to write before Saturday so programming isn't top of the list at the moment. Rest assured when all that is out of the way it will be once again my number one reason to stay up all night.

i was fortunate enough not to have encountered the downtime, if i had i would have certainly have been in hospital now for a broken heart
seriously though Ian, most people on here know how much work you do for the site, theres no need to explain yourself as far as i can see. it was out of your hands, and its back up and running so its all laffin'

In all fairness I was quite impressed the datacentre handled the failure within minutes of it occurring. I was notified by SMS, but I can't say I was anywhere near a computer at the time!
I'm looking into 100% power/network SLAs, but the cost me be prohibitive and better spent elsewhere. They are upgrading some of the breakers/power distribution anyway so we may get a free 'upgrade'...
