Bought something from guy living in a town less than 10 miles away & I asked if I can pick it up as I need it asap (also its £8 postage which is a bit inflated imo) Anyway the guy replied with - No sorry - we don't permit collections.

It mentions nowhere on the listing no collections although it doesnt say collection or coc on the listing either!!

Is this a bit shady, the guy has a 1074 - 99.9% rating so isnt dodgy, BUT I want to arange to pick it up as I live so close & need it quick & dont want to pay the postage

don't you have his address? or phone number?

call him and explain

BTW, some sellers inflate their postage prices to make out a bit for the final value fee etc...

If you seen that there was 10 quid postage and still bought the item then the guy isn't really doing anything wrong.

Don't bid if you don't want to pay the total price including delivery.

Says in the listing - 'Postage charges are higher than the actual stamp value. This is common practice on ebay, and helps you because my seller fees are reduced. It also goes towards covering packaging costs.'

That im fine with............if I lived the other side of the country. But as it stands I live like 10 minutes away. theres 1 country road btween our 2 towns, yet hes wnting to post it after me explaining id like to pick it up as I need it for my college project.

Its a part for a generator.

I understand that.

But if you weren't willing to pay the postage you should have confirmed before you bought it.

personally dont see the problem mate, i sold a batch of dvds on there ages ago and after the auction ended, he asked if he could pick them up instead, i agreed, all i had to do was answer the door and hand them over, no hassle of posting etc, saves much more time

agree with john.

also if something went wrong, or the deal turned sour, im sure he wouldn't want the hassle of you knowing his whereabouts and causing trouble on his doorstep, not that you would, but he doesnt know you from adam.

you could turn up, hold him to ransom for his car keys and run off with his car
