understand the bit about the front fine but stuggling with the rear. Is this the same system as the corsa with a rear beam?

Crank axle I think is the same as trailing arm arrangement, same as a Corsa.

Torsion stabliser is probably what is more commonly known on these parts as an anti-roll bar. Just something to union the two sides.
