regarding the government and the petition about pay as you go road tax

quote:

Firstly the government can ignore this if they want, it's a petition intended to show peoples opposition to an intended policy that may or may not happen, 750,000 signatures simply means that lots of people would be against this policy and we can hope that they listen. Past cases would indicate that this will not be the case.

Secondly while I hate the government with a passion for their concerted attempt to remove both the freedoms, democracy and checks and measures that England has built up over the years, you can't bash them for not sending out stuff about a petition that some guy put on their website. It's a website where anyone can register a petition and get people to sign it, the fact the government even do this is quite good considering they seem to think the voting public are beneath them. Anyway I've already signed it and expect to be ignored, maybe everyone will do the right thing and vote Tory in the next election - actually making a point.

Also lets hope that git Blair and his cronies go to prison for selling titles to finance their election and someone makes Blair 'his bitch'. I would be very happy about this, the lying shitbag.

Regards

Duncan

My company is testing payg insurance with norwich union at the min, we are supplying the units to them to trial it!!!! I dont see why they dont just put petrol up and leave tax and insurance alone, At least that way you are paying what you should do and I think its fairer if they are gonna do anything!

Pay as you go road tax is a fantastic idea!
My reason for this:

With the current status, the little old lady who only leaves her house for her groceries is paying the same amount of road tax as the national sales rep who is traveling up and down the country every day.

IMO he is causing more wear and tear on the roads and should therefore pay more road tax than her.
He might pay more tax on petrol, but that is not road tax.

As Luisa has said, slap it ALL on petrol, and the more wear/tear on the roads, the more you are polluting the enviornment the more you should be taxed.

If I was rich it wouldn't bother me.

But I'm not, and neither are a high percentage of people.

Thats a bit different.
The government doesnt have to spend millions on fixing the TV signals because you are using it, and you are not polluting the environment

i kind of agree with what bart is saying, but then again on the other hand they have fitted a tracker to your car, so expect some points and a fine every time you go over the speed limit

edit - and im not sure if piling the tax on petrol, in a tory manner, is a good idea either, as that would stop a lot of people that NEED a car using one. And public transport is far from acceptable in this country to make in an alternative method of getting to where you need.

There have been plenty of reports that the police are looking into this and although it may not be used at first, im sure it wouldn't be long before they do.

And top shot, im not sure adding 10pence or so to a litre would cover the disappearence of road tax, they would have to make petrol well over a quid a litre to cover it.

How many cars are there in the UK that are driven at least once a month?

Put a tracker on anything over 2.0 litre and 4x4 [/controversy]
