am just watching breakfast on BBC1 saying that there are many flaws in the chip and pin method.
how hard is it to bring in Biometrics, cant see the problem of pairing your print with your card when you first get it, either at the bank or at a cash point. still has flaws but is a lot safer than a pin that can easily be obtained by a carefully placed camera

people can modify the chip and pin machines in shops to intercept the pin number as you type it in

they should bring in a similar thing to when your logging onto your bank account online (atleast with Narwest)
Where you have a long password of letters and numbers, and then when your paying they ask for different digits, say the 1st, 5th, 7th, 9th. That way even if people see it they wouldnt get the whole thing.

yeah hsbc does that aswell. but in a way you have to think of how long it would take some people in the shops to enter all the information.

it wouldnt take too much longer once you know it. Ive a 15 digit password, and at first it was a pain working it out (although didnt take too long) but now just know what each digit is straight away.

i know what your saying but old people at the moment take hours to enter 4 digit pins and then women with about 20 different cards would be a nightmare for them.
altho its a good way to cut them down spending as they wouldnt know what pin to enter.

same password for all the cards. It would be more secure than a 4 digit pin so could have the same one for every card.

I wouldn't have a problem using a fingerprint scanner for my bank card. I wouldn't have a problem using it to log into online banking either. The technology isn't exactly that expensive anymore either... Thinkpads come with fingerprint scanners on them now anyway...

But in order to get the cash you would still need to go to a cash-machine (unless you go into the bank when it's open)

i think most people are talking about chip and pin machines in shops as cash machines are called ATM's. therefore you can get money out the ATM and spend it in shops
