take the gear linkage off and see if it goes into gear without the linkage

We did, and it doesn't. Well, Not like the 1.2 gearbox, which can be pushed and pulled easily into gear.

my old f20 box could be put in gear and took out easy when in the engine bay...

something may be up with the box them

Didn't drive it myself, but it had been driven. And it was left in gear when we took the engine out.

UPDATE: 19/02

I'll e-mail you straight away tomorrow mate. I work Wednesdays, but can try and re-arrange my hours.

I whipped the actual gear selector off the top of the box tonight and had a looky. Once it came out the synchro thingy had moved across one somehow, we slid a screwdriver in there and it's in neutral! Yes!

Aligned the linkage as described in Haynes and we can get Reverse, 1st and Third! It's touching the steering rack though! Got to conquer that now

Happy with tonights result though!!

Update: 25/02.

ITS GOES IN GEAR! FUCKING YES!!

Amazing. This morning we decided to junk the Mtech Spacer and try a bog standard linkage off a Corsa with Nova Metal Bar.

Loads of fannying about in the pissing rain and a couple of cups of tea it was all set up and we had a look.

1st... Yes

3rd... Yes

2nd Yes!

They all worked! Yeh!

Next problem is to sort out the alternator that is currently grinding on the chassis leg (A bit sparky :lol and to get the exhaust sorted.

The car appears to be misfiring. We started looking as I loosened the Injector Rail earlier to get to a Jubilee clip. Whoops. Didn't realise as I don't really count it as an electrical connector. Ended up with the car running at 250rpm and popping and banging It appears to have a misfire on the 2 middle cylinders. Going to try a new coilpack on it.

Test drove it a bit too. It went through the gears, and I can reverse it about! Might try and get that manifold off this week. Don't have a clue what to do about the exhaust though Gotta bodge it until I can take it to get a Proper system made

Another problem is that the Drivers side wheel you can grab and wobble. Spacer is fitted, and new bearings. Might whip it out and take it back up to the garage I got them from. Hmm....

nice one fella, mine is misfiring at the moment aswell, we suspect that it is the ht leads so gunna change them this week, anyone know how much they are from vaux?
only had mine back since last night, im loving it
