Every time i get to a point of unsureness about what to do next on the car i always contemplate an xe

but im very put off by the amount of people doing the conversion and then selling a few months down the line due to problems or for the shear fact there fed up of unreliability

just been wondering what your views are on the matter, i think it would be interestin to see the percentage of people that have done the conversion and actually keep the car and enjoyed it to the amount of people that have done the conversion and sold on after a few months due to unrelaiblilty or other problems

post away

I bought mine with the engine already converted and i've had it 2 years with no problems/breakdowns at all.

I think its down to doing the job properly. Anyone can lob in an XE. The best way to go about it i would think, is to get the engine but rebuild it so its like a fresh, new engine, replacing the sensors/meters that are common in failing.

hmm that is pretty sound advice tbh! for the people that have done conversions that 1st year after the swop over seems to be when things go wrong! like a teething period!

John, i'd say buy an engine now while its still winter. Then start re-building it, replacing everything that you can afford to. Then hopefully you'll have it re-built be spring time and you can think of getting it put into your corsa for lot of fun in summer!

XE are great fun i dont regret my conversion at all!
I used mtech for all stuff just to make sure i didnt pop driveshafts and all that crap.
I use mine as a daily drive and its fine.
Only probs I am having are with the engine itself but no biggies really was rebuilt but looks like a piston ring may have been cracked during the fuc*in*g rebuild
First few weeks are worse imo while you sort all the pain in the arse teething probs and other random things

Go for it mate, will never forget how class it felt when i first drove it down road

You shouldnt get any problems as long as you get a good engine, do the conversion properly and look after the thing!
Too many people thrash these engines to pieces and dont regurly service them, thats when problems/breakdowns come into things.

So many people with xe's. I'm jellous, for me it will be a 1.6 before an xe though as a 1l too xe would be a big jump.

Would you be able to do the conversion your self John, i wish i was able to, i've heard it costs arround £600-1000 labour. Minimum...
