it wouldn't even run if the little end had 'gone'
unless it's just rattling a bit, and the person is scared

unfortunatly its finally gave up after taking me to work and back (20 mins drive there and back for about 4 months.) Basically while driving home from work i heard a noise that sounded like a big end rattling when i accelerated. I slowed down to 50 on the motorway but could still hear it slightly so i got towed home with the AA to be safe. Got my dad to look at it when i got back and after checking the cam shaft thoroughly and listening to it tick over perfectly normally till you accelerate he diagnosed the little end had gone.

are you with the AA?
go get it, drive to the end of the road, stop, ring them, get towed home.
