I am in the process of applying for another job at a rival company at the moment...

My current boss doesn't know that obviously. This other job would pay much better than here, probably double my income. They are a much bigger outfit.

I kinda feel bad as this company has paid for me to do 4 years at college which I only just finished at the end of last year (been here 5 years now) and we are extremely busy so if I left it would kind of leave them in the lurch.

But I deserve a decent wage don't I?! And in that respect I am being taken for a ride at the moment. I just can see it going down very very badly if I get the other job. Not sure what is the best way to go about it all I hate confrontations but I am not going to get the wage I deserve if I stay here...

Not sure why I posted this, makes me feel better writing it down anyway

at the end of the day you have to look after number 1 mate. I say go for the other job if it's good for you personally (ie your career etc).

In the grand scheme of things the company you are with now have served their purpose and you can now move on Thank them for everything they have done for you and go for it

Yeah its true I do need to look after No.1. I'm just a bit of a pussy when it comes to that sort of thing

Like you say I only work for money, not for the hell of it... so when he has a big bust up with me when I tell him I'm leaving I'll say that to him.

Even if I dont get this job I am still looking to work somewhere as if I stop here I'm going to be stuck in a rut!

Apply and go for interview then if you get offered the job tell your current employers prior to you handing in your notice. if they wanna keep you then they will up the anti....

think of it this way they have had 4 years cheap labour from you as colleague fees and your wage would not add up to a fully qualified wage

Thats true. My mates at college were all on 3-4k more than me. And now they are on double what I am. But they didn't even have to approach their employers, they just automatically gave them wage rises when they got their qualifications! I'd love to have an employer like that!

Why not simply ask your employer to review your current salary as you feel it is not in keeping with the industry standard

the longer you stay somewhere the more difficult it becomes to leave.

what Moe said.

If they are notorious for paying low but are good at training then they will fully expect people to move on when they are qualified.
You don't need to feel bad about it. It's career progression, and normally the only way to get along in life.

It wont be the first time and it wont be the last.

He'll say he can't afford to pay me anything like the wages the bigger companies offer. I know what he is like.

Looking after number 1 is spot on. I have pissed loads of people off in my time doing various things. Am I selfish? Yes. Am I a cunt? Id say so. But am I better off for it. Damn straight I am. You working for peanuts benefits the owners of the company you work for. So by paying you less, they can take more out of the business. So why should you feel bad. They are looking after number 1, why shouldnt you. Do when ever benefits you the most in the longterm. Though try not to burn your bridges.

If this is the case you really shouldn't feel guilty about moving and your employer really cant complain

If they have brainwashed you into that way of thinking then they are taking the piss!

Whats the point in doing courses unless you get paid more for being more qualified?

what do you do mate?? This was the exact position my mate was in as a mechanic. He's not a pussy, tbh he's a bit of a mouthy cunt, but he has worked for his company for a few years whilst getting qualified, in his small garage it's only him and his boss, but they were still paying him £130 a week, he asked and asked and it got to the point where he was going to work for me as a temp as that would of got him £300 a week, after a huge conversation with me until about 3am the next morning he said to his boss unless he gets a pay rise he'll walk out and work for me. After kicking off a bit they sorted it out. And they're a small garage and always say they couldn't afford to, but then again they have just spent all that money training and you've served them well, they probably won't want to let you go when it comes to it. Just grow some balls!!!

Got the job

On 4k extra than my old job to start with then I get a wage review after 6 months so its a trial period basically. There is plenty of scope for increasing wage after 6 months

Get free private health care which I dont get where I am now. Also get more holidays and finish half an hour earlier.

Got to hand my resignation in at current work yet
