http://media.putfile.com/Random-Car-Video-Clips

I reduced the video size / quality to upload it. Also my car is no where near it's normal pace. But I just thought we'd do it for the hell of it.

I wasn't driving either of the cars mind.

Pugsport decat exhaust, Ecosse induction with green inside, kent pt51 cams, 4-2-1 manifold and remap.

It's not running as well as it was though, ever since it had electrical problems, it's lost it's top end peak.

I'm gonna swap 4-2-1 for 4-1 and that should at least make it more peaky otherwise I'll take it to jamsport and get them to have a look at it.

Mine at the moment (in it's crap condition) is about as quick as a standard gti / vts with maybe an exhaust.

yeh all 106 gti's are 1.6 16v.

they're supposedly 120 bhp standard, but mine made 140 bhp with just exhaust + filter, so it was more like 125-130 bhp standard!

106 gti's are soooo light, that it makes them really quick off the line. They're also great handling, like a go-kart, so controllable. Not so much in the wet tho.

I'll build up some no claims with this little 1l then looking into a 106 gti!

I'm guessing the insurance is pretty steep for those ?

Essentially... It's lost its top end peak...

So it's still got the torque up to say 6k rpm (so still probably making about 140 bhp), but it's tailing off after...

I had a electrical problem and it went to several garages, so I think someone's tweaked something accidently on my ECU. So will get it looked at soon.

As a result it goes ok up to 6k (so in a long gear, 3rd / 4th / 5th) - but after 6k (where it should be pulling sooooo hard) it's not, and thus 2nd gear doesn't feel as quick as it used to.

Is the 106 GTI about the same as the Saxo VTR performance wise ?

If so what corsa would be able to give them a run for their money in a race ?

No.

106 Gti = same as Saxo VTS.

VTR = 1.6 8v. (i.e. Slower)

Corsa 2.0 16v (C20XE Conversion) will be a similar match.

The best race ive had was with a Saxo VTS in my Corsa 2.0 XE and after a chat i found out his spec:

Saxo:

1.6 Rebuilt Engine
Cams
Induction Kit
Uprated Manifold & Exhaust
Remap
Driver Only (Skinny Kid)
Est 150/160bhp

Corsa:

2.0 XE Conversion
Power Cap
FSE Boost Valve
BMC Enclosed Induction
Full Exhaust (Standard Manifold)
1 Passenger (15st) + Driver (15st)
Est 160bhp

He sat in my slip stream, over took me half a car length and then i gained on him and it was neck and neck at an indicated 142mph (downhill) before i nudged past by when the road flattened out. It was so close his front end was level with my wing mirror loved that race.

he said his tops out at 140mph

I tested my speedo with a road angel and it is 4mph over read all the way through the clock so it would have been 138 (or possibly less at that speed) even if said 135mph. I couldnt believe it myself was shocked.

I wouldn't expect there to be much in it, over a 1/4 mile it would be very close, top end though i'd expect the xe to pull away. i probably wouldn't push mine over 120mph.
