When you have people slating the ST220 as a 'hot hatch' then what else do you expect?

How can you slate a car for something it's not meant to be?

I tell thee, yon Astra VXR is rubbish for town driving. I can think of plenty of cars that'll use less petrol

not saying its bad.

its people saying its "such" a great car, when really its a motorway rep mobile with a bit of poke, and it doesnt really excell at anything!!

I can think of a few 6 pot Alpha romeos of that size which will do 6 secs to 60mph... and hit 100mph in less time than the modeobarge.

just think its odd people rate them so highly

I think your old GTE was a belter tbh as your car seemed to take on many that other GTE's couldn't. (not taking the p1ss or being sarcastic for a change either )

My corsa was over a tonne in weight at the time, and i had my viper induction kit exposed and it really kills the perfomance on it, but tbh, even if i had the air feed on, i still think he'd have pulled.

It wasn't leaving me, but gradually pulling away. I can keep with a Civic Type R better than I could a ST220 though, although I get outpaced by them as well

If i stop changing my mind like the weather, i may actually get it all sorted

As for someone saying an ST220 would kill a GTE round the bends LMFAO yeah, errrrrrrrr hokay...... The weight alone gives the astra the advantage.

You're really missing the point, aren't you?
Even with it's 7odd sec 0-60, it'll leave most cars of it's size in it's wake when it involves anything that resembles a corner.

Em, VXR...I think you've spent a tad too long with Vauxhalls. Ford make cars that actually handle...y'know? The Mondeo and Focus were the two cars that set the trend off.
The Mk2 Astra was an atrocious vehicle. The Astra could weigh 25kg's and still corner like a duck on ice.

Similar size that it will leave????

Monaro
M3
Audi RS4
Nissan Skyline R35
Lexus IS250
That Alfa V6 jobbie.
Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, hokay........
Its not a bad car, and i like the styling, but there is other cars...

Errrr G Unit Man maybe, but although I love my Vauxhalls, I don't have blinkered vision.

Focus is a great platform, but are we talking about focus's here? I only see Mondeo..

So how well did the ol mondeos do in the old BTCC championship???? How many Modeno's are used in racing? There is a reason..........

The Mk2 astra was not a bad car, where the hell did you get that from? It was a superb car OF ITS TIME and had an engine from 15+ years ago that still would outpace many 2.0's of today?

Not many cars had a digi dash back then, but thats purley the fun part.... The Astra was miles ahead of anything in that time as they all had to be made of tin cans (R5) or have Turbos bolted on.

I think you're the one wearing fordtinted sunglasses.

Mondeo's are not the bee's knee's and has it even got an lsd etc, bet it has quite a bit of grip from the big tyres and is a tad lower than normal but can't see it being amazing, certainly not vs a lighter, and no doubt nimbler car, maybe on a very slight corner on a motorway doing 130

Either that or you're being a pedantic twit; either way there's not much point talking to you.

The Mk2 was notorious for being crap. As is the Mk3, which is just a reshelled Mk2.

How standard are the cars in the BTCC? We're talking about road vehicles here, FFS.

Weight has slightly less than bugger all to do with a car's handling ability, providing the chassis is setup correctly. The ST220 is stiffer, lower than a standard Mondeo and, not just my opinion, is *renowned* for being a fantastic handling car. Vauxhall have yet to make a mainstream car that will corner decently.

What has the digi dash got to do with anything? Does it make it corner any better?

Started what trend exactly? The word mondeo and "trend" dont really corespond to me.

If you mean hot hatches surely you mean the VW golf, alfa sud, and ford escort?? Not a focus thats for sure.....

And the astra mk2 was a great car, was raved about in reviews, yes it was a tin can as were most hatches of that era

If you had any form of clue, you'd know what context 'trend' was used in. The Mondeo ST220 *isn't* a hot hatch, and was *never* intended to be.

And the Focus not a hot hatch? Excuse me, RS and ST? Hello?

They set the trend for Ford making vehicles that handled well. The Mondeo is generally regarded as the best handling large family vehicle, the Focus the medium, and the Fiesta the small.

The Mk1 escort set that trend.
The Nova handles better than the Fiesta in it's era, the Astra mk1/2 handles better than a mk3/4 escort...

I don't understand what you're saying
