Evening all...

Just thinking to the future...

I started my motoring days with a 1.2 8v corsa vegas and now drive a 1.6 focus, really happy with it...reasonably nippy, not bad fuel economy etc

However, in the next 6 months I'm getting a company car (prob mk5 golf) so looking to sell the focus. I'm now looking at a faster "toy" so far my shortlist is:

Golf Mk2 16v GTi - fav at the mo
Corsa C20XE - without trying to offend anyone, maybe a bit boy racer
Nova C20XE - ditto
Skyline R32 GTR (AKs project got me thinking) - high insurance and running costs
Civic EK9 - Don't know much about them

I'm going to be 23 so remember that insurance is going to be and issue and i'm also saving for a house so overall cost is important! I haven't got the greatest mechanical knowledge but I am fairly practical so want something that has the potential for me to work on myself.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks for reading my life story

nova .... cheap thrills.... if it brakes.... repairs are cheap compared to others... at end of the day as you said a fun car not a daily driver so does it matter if its a nova its just for fun

Nova, not a 20XE though, a gte/gsi will be quick, and VERY easy to work on.

definitely not a mk2 golf, if anything, a mk1.

JM - Not a bad shout, always fancied a Nova and wanted one before I got my first Corsa.

Robin - What's the problem with the mk2? Surely a decent standard(ish) mk1 would be even harder to come by.

Steve - Max 5k, but would prefer to prob pick something up for around £2.5k and do it up. Saying that...GTRs and EK9s are prob way over budget.

Marc - too be honest I knew nothing about R32s until I read AKs post. Love the look of that RB9 (?) engine. Anyone know what insurance grp they are?

Mk2 is a bit lardy compared to the mk1, for 1.5k, you'd get a mint mk1, standard, fun, the mk2 would be slower and not handle as well.

5k is a lot of money, kit car would be top of my list for that.

Robin - Guess I will just have to see whats about wrt golfs at the time. I'd be happy with either a mint mk1 or mk2! Should fall into classic car territory too!
