Working in my shop opposite a junction, I see this every day. Now IMO double yellow lines are there to stop people parking there because it is deemed dangerous to do so (to park on the double yellows). So why is it having a blue badge in your car means you can park somewhere A) illegal and B) deemed a dangerous place to park?
Having the blue badge doesnt make it any less dangerous to park on a junction!!
Discuss.

Is this true?
Because even some of my customers do it. They often say, im parked just over on the double yellows but its ok ive got my badge in the car.......
So even with the badge it is still illegal?!

you can park on singles and on double's but only if you aren't causing a obstruction or making it dangerous and there is a time limit aswell

You're allowed to park on the lines but you still mustn't leave the car in a dangerous position.

What makes them so special though? Why do they NEED to park in places which are banned for other people

double yellow lines are fine (within reason). Even worse is when people park/stop on red lines whether single (in controlled time limit) or double

Me?
Explain to me how having a badge should give you the right to park in a place which is disallowed for anyone else?

Think you are allowed 3 hours too but the traffic wardens have never stuck a ticket on any of our cars for going over that. They are my Nan's badges, she lives with my parents.

You are allowed to park on single yellow lines too unless it states otherwise...

i see what your saying.. but at least they have a need.. not like arguing bout taxi drivers.
blue badge holders generally cant walk the distances most other people can.. same principle of disabled spaces i dont see the problem tbh
put yourself in their shoes

But the places have double yellow lines for a reason.
It's not like disables spaces, I understand that, that's fine. It's like saying 'you can park on a blind bend, because you have a gammy leg' or whatever, most of the places double yellows are, are dangerous/busy, and NO-ONE should be allowed to park there.
It's not about the parking nearer, it's about the parking where other people aren't allowed, for no apparent reason.

ok put it this way.
my mother is in a wheel chair, my father is her carer, so am i and my family.
my father who is also disabled cannot walk far distances
so park out side the shop for a few reason's 1 he has to get the wheel chair out, put my mother in it then go to the shop, being disabled means this is hard,
in many places there is no or little provision for wheel chairs from car parks etc making it very very difficult, even for me as kerbs, cobbles, any uneven surface proves tiresome and tricky.
that is 1 reason, i have many many more.
and the piont i seem to be picking up on from some views here is "parking anywhere they like" they sounds like you are clssing "them" as another class, almost like being racist.
also parking wherever is not allowed, you cant cause an obstruction, or leave the vehicle in a dangerous manner.
there are also a lot more rules. obviously some ppl flout these rules but not everyone.
there are manymore points and views but there is no point me discussing them here as the views i seem to be seeing are narrow minded and it seems you have little tolerence for disabled ppl,
in the future when your old and have arthritis, a form of m-e epliepsy and asthma and a heart problem cant walk and have to take numerous amounts of tablets just to stay alive. when you are offered a disabled parking permit you turn it down, safe in the knowledge that you know that you dont need it.

No.
My mother has one.
Allows her to park indefinitely on a single yellow line, maximum 3 hours on a double yellow line, although not at all if there is are any yellow markings on the kerb.
Being severley arthritic, with two replacement knees and a spine that would see most people in a wheelchair, I don't think it's bad that she's allowed to park closer to the shops from time to time.
Having said that, I know the blue badge privileges are abused by some people, but whichever of us is driving my mum will always park somewhere sensible, and if thats not possible, then we'll try to find somewhere else.

One thing I do find bewildering is that my mum's allowed to use the M6 Toll, free of charge... I don't see any difference between a disabled and an "able" driver once they're actually driving along that means disabled people don't have to pay. Odd one that.

No Adam, I don't have little tolerance for disabled people.
My point still remains. I'm not raising the issue of parking NEARER to somewhere, I agree with that, that's fine.
My point is what makes a disabled person (of ANY kind, not just in a wheelchair) any more entitled to park somewhere which is classed as ILLEGAL for other people?
I don't understand.

I have a blue badge and I agree some people take the piss with parking on double yellows but if its safe to then fair enough.
What I have always disagred with is fellow blue badge holders that think they should be able to park in car parks for free.
