right it looks like my track beast is now gonna be my brothers old 1.8 16v clio.

Im looking at taking the engine out and changing all the belts.

While its out i might aswell consider having a play with it.
The question is, what mods are out there for the 1.8 16v engines?

Im thinkin:
- put the megane 2.0 bottom end on
- aftermarket cams
- Throttle bodies
- Manifold

What are peoples opinions on these cars? they are basically williams clios just not 2.0

leave the engine, gut the car, put the lightest bumpers you can on it, light wheels, decent brakes, buy a few gearboxes.

a car with decent brakes and suspension will be better than a car with loads of power with gay brakes etc.

also, they're not quite like the williams, the suspension in the williams is FAR better according to Cliosport.com or .net or whatever it is.

do those bits first, make it light, make it stop, make it turn, THEN make it go fast

90bhp with decent suspension and brakes beats 225bhp with standard suspension and brakes

Mate had one. Had No end of problems, resorting around the gearbox. Gearbox mount broke, and had to re house gearbox. Then internal wents, then bottom end. Scraped it. However he has just bought a williams, and oh my is it fast, beat's my friends 306 gti-6 by a fair bit, keeps on going...still french tho.

i own a 106 gti already.

Dean as for french falling apart, thats not always true. My 106 gti has had no problems and i use it for my daily driver.

I think when they get high mileage they fall apart then, the clio is an L reg and its got a 70k mileage engine in it. So im thinkin of taking it out replacing all the mounts, changing the cambelt and then see if its better running.

Also had a chipped ecu lying around the garage somewhere which should make it run at 150bhp.

actually the williams has a wider track which gives it it's better handling, i beleive there is little difference between the actual shocks... i'f you want work done then speak to nick hill (just google it) and he'll advise on the best mods for your £££ alternatively look at the BB tuning webiste for ideas.

Very good bases for a track car, rather than mucking about with the standard engine you can fit a 2.0 out of a willaims or megan. They are basicly the same engine both about 150 bhp but as you can imagine peolpe like to jack the price up on anything that has 'willaims' associated with it. although they only have 13 hp more than the 1.8 the differnece in torque make for a completly different drive.

Then you can go down the usal cams and TB's for about 190 bhp and 200+ with head work

see www.renaultsportsclub.com for deatils on the engine converstion

70k is the benchmark for things to start breaking mate unless its been molested lovingly from day 1. i bought mine for 3500 a good few year ago on an m plate phase 2, 52k, was warned about the things to go wrong, must have cost twice that to keep it going; 2 gearbox rebuilds, water pumps, clutches, electris f****g up on me inc, fan heater blower and windows, saying that though i loved it as a car and to drive was lovely, comfy, smooth, lowered it 35mm and it was on its arse!! quite low as standard, quite nippy for a 1.8 aswell at 137bhp, met a lad who had built one with a megane bottom end and few other mods and he said it would see his mates williams off every time and i can believe it cos it didnt half shift
spend money in the right places and look after em and theyre good cars i suppose, love the gauges in the dash aswell. just a bit plasticcy and rattle a bit which can get annoying!

im just tired of it eck, its a corsa site. yet anyone who posts up saying their corsa was goin well last night, or was keeping up with another car gets barrated by abuse of its not a 106, only a 106 can do this, its not as quick as a 106

its become boring and annoying, and really just isnt vboa
