I keep seeing a few of you on here using rattle cans to do little jobs such as smooth boots with rattle cans, I know the qaulity will never be as good as a gun and compressor but is the qaulity that bad with a good old rattle can?

Also what process do you use when spraying?

Cheers

no never use rattle cans for external panel work.

you can get a satisfactory finish on internal stuff, like door handles etc, but not on a panel like a boot

Take it you've actually never had a shot of doing it, or your just shit at spraying??!! I've painted a wing, boot and bumper for friends and family and the finish is unreal..

If you prep it right and use good quality paint theres no reason why external panels cant be done to look good!

again in your eyes it was probably good, i have never seen anything sprayed with cans thats any good, like ed says dont matter how good at spraying you are if the paints crap it will never look good.

Then theres the crap nozzles and inconsisent coverage you get with an aerosol, it clogs, spurts etc

with regards to escort-gti i would like to see it in real life and not in pics then i might change my mind

steve you are a cock.

With enough prep it can look good.

Ed says he doesnt see the point in rattle cans.

When steveW's car was resprayed black and i saw it at trax the paint work was shocking. The orange peel was so bad.

I'm talking from personal experience. I use rattle cans all the time at uni for models. I get annoyed every time I use them as the paint is utter crap, then there is the fact that you don't get enough pressure with them.

As for Steves car. That was an example of trying to fit two weeks work into one week. Not good, hence we re-sprayed it completely again once we got back home again

Its obviously not as good as a coachworks would manage but for a fraction of the cost it is well worth while in my eyes..

The paint and Laquer I use is very high quality compared to the cack that most folk buy out of halfords.. ive had lots of comments about the boot on my Mk3 being amazing quality for rattle tins..

I think the way he goes about expressing his opinion makes him look like a cock though... probably a perfectly decent bloke, just comes across the wrong way..
