Just wondering what everyone pays for the dentist as I got a shock today. I used to be NHS and have never been told otherwise but I have had three check ups which have been £27.50 each so guessed they switched me to private. Today I had a check up, polish, two xrays which are needed once every two years he said and he told me i needing a filling but it was small as they cought it early. Bill was £135 which was which broke down as:
Examination £30
Polish £30
Filling £65
xrays £10

cost me 50 quid for an examination as i'd not had one for 5 years, then 60 quid for a filling and a polish.
I now pay 15 quid a month but all i get for that is preventative treatment, had to go on that though as i didn't have a place at the dentists after such a long absence.

Difficult one in my experience.

Pay little money for NHS work and get the teaboy

Or pay into a dental plan and get somebody who knows what they are doing for £10 a month.

I'm with the former and transferring to the latter ASAP

In 2001 the NHS cost 62 billion for the year, the current UK population is 60 million so that’s 1,033 a person per year.

The average house hold is around 2.4 so that’s £2,480.

Yet that includes children and pensioners who do not pay national insurance so say half the population are in work that’s £4960 per year per household as a conservative estimate,

Yet national insurance contributions also go to things such as pensions so even at say 75% (which is no where near the figure) going on the NHS that is £7440 per household, now many households pay that per year in NI so I think paying for none important treatment such as dentist checkups is not much to ask.

It's to keep you on the books, as it is really hard to get a dentist in Scotalnd nowadays, they is always waiting lists...

A new dentist opened up in the town next to me and were signing ppl up and hundreds waited overnight to get signed up.
