Girls from what I've observed do like nice guys, they don't want to be with a wanker that treats them like shit (unless they are thick and don't know any different), but at the same time they don't want to be with someone that acts like a poofter and can't look after themselves/expect them to look after you.
Think about it this way, you are the man, you have to be their 'protector'; they expect you to be able to stick up for them and yourself, but at the same time have a 'sensitive' side.
You gotta be prepared to fight for them to an extent (not just physically as such but I guess I'm talking metaphorically speaking really).
If you can show them you have a sensitive side yet can be a bit of a bad boy on occasion, this will keep them interested and wanting to find out more.

Let's face it, it would be a bit gay if you were with your missus in a club or something and someone started on her or whatever, and she had to deal with it herself, she would expect you as her man to sort it out!
