my english teacher used to play classic fm in lessons because it helps you concentrate apparently, but it sent me more to sleep (not because it was boring, because it was relaxing)

I tend to listen to instrumental or sometimes classical music when working. It's much better than repetitive bassy music for example.
I tend to go for more modern composers though, Craig Armstrong... Hans Zimmer to list a couple. You'll probably have heard Armstrong's music at some point on Top Gear, Zimmer has done a lot of work in the film industry - Hunt for Red October and MI2 being among them.

Hans zimmer has also done a lot of shite, Spanglish, Pearl Harbour. But he has a list of decent film scores under his belt though and has done The Simpsons movie - which is quite odd
The only thing that naffs me off with Hans zimmer, is that if you watch (listen to the scores) of Gladiators, Black Hawk Down, Batman Begins, he uses the same string sections, same operatic singer (Lisa Gerrard i believe) and percussion (obviosuly with slight differences) - they suit the films (but then again, a lot of things will), it just sounds as if he is copy/pasting sections and just arranging them differently
Been listen to a bit of Edward Elgar and his Cello Concerto, Serenade For Strings, but only because Venetian Snares samples him in his > Szamar Madar track < (off the Rossz Csillag Allat Szuletett album)
Personally i would buy classical music and i do, off allTunes (is it illegal or is it legal, who knows lol) but for $3 for 66mins of classical music at 320Kbit, cant go wrong - Plus the libary is huge!

Agree with you Dom, I wouldn't say I like all his work, there's the odd one or two that stand out for me like Injection from MI:2, that one is quite a compelling piece.
