It's going to cost about £1500 to get it all done properly.
His insurance will be sky high if he could get insured at all at 18
Road tax goes up
He's only keeping it for two years so why bother? Might as well stick with the 1.2 til he build up a decent amount of NCB then get something better in 2 years' time.

Plus he'll probably kill himself within a month of having the conversion done due to lack of experience on the roads.

i'd do it. 2 years is a long time, i've had 3 cars in 18months, and getting my fourth on sunday. I think if it would make you happy i would, you will get insurance, i've only just turned 19 and could get insured on a c20let, and £1500 over 2 years of fun is good value imho.

i was gonna say this
also you prob wont get insured, and dont insure as a 1.2 still with the engine, not worth it, you loose everything if you crash, and if you hurt someone else you will get screwed over big time and could loose more than just your car if it came to it.

that would be my concern, i went from a 1.4 to a 1.8 turbo, the difference in power was scary. tbh a 1.2 to a 2.0 you will shit yourself!!!

well why post saying is it worth it??? i can't see why insurance gets talked about so much, the difference between a 1.1 fiesta and my cupra is about £600, over a year i'd prefer to spend that extra and have a nice car!!!!!

wot i mean is insurance is expensive for us teenagers, it's still gonna be a lot for a 1.2, up that to a 2ltr and i bet it'll go up maybe £500??? Your probably paying over a grand now anyway!!!

Every one has to start some where i had a 1.4 mk3 golf which was slower than a 1.2 corsa, got a years no claims from it and got a 1.6 sport, even that step was scary at first, Glad i didnt make a huge jump
But its up to you.....

I would say DONT do it:
a) You are far to young (insurance is going to b sky high)
b) As said you will end up crashing due to lake of experience on the roads, with that power
c) People will still sh*t on you as they arent that quick as everyone makes out they are, been there done that
d)Remember the maintaince costs, they dont all run well after the conversion, i spent loads on mine.
There is alot more than racing everyone. There are more disadcantages than advantages.
I would wait two years build up your NCB and get a faster STANDARD car, then play with that tuning it up etc.
The only people who are saying yes on here are teenagers. People who have been there done it etc, are giving you the right advice

You had a shit conversion or a tuned Astra then. As mine would kill an Astra turbo.
I went from 90bhp to 300bhp+ in under a year.
The slowest car i drove i crashed...
Mine was fine, never missed a beat. (1 time it wasn't running right it was free to fix it)
My sport however needed a headgasket, rocker cover gasket and a couple of sensors.
I did 10,000miles in about 8 months with the XE fitted.
I did fit a clutch though but thats a wear and tear item.
Insurance is gonna cost £1000 on anything. Why not pay the extra 50% and drive something you enjoy.
