nah, should stay as once every year IMHO.
A LOT can happen with a car in 2 years, especially slightly older ones.
£45 is cheap for the piece of mind of knowing your car is safe.

also this may be a ploy by the government to take focus away from the road pricing plans...

Imagine buying a car with 12 months MoT on it, and finding it's not roadworthy, because it hasn't been tested for a year
Also, like the article says, a lot of people only find out about things which need sorting when they have the car tested, so they could be driving with no brake pads, or a leaky fuel tank, for over a year.
Definitely not a good idea.

I'm not too sure on this.
Maybe it should be either £45 per year OR £120ish every 2 years, like you can have the choice.

It only works if people don't have cars older than 10 years really.

If the rest of Europe is every 2 years then there must be plus points if we're following their lead rather than the other way around.
Personally can't think of many off of the top of my head

In Europe, the tests are stricter, so you don't get advisories, just a fail if something is slightly iffy, AFAIK.

sounds okay i mean you can do an MOT whenever you want if you feel your car needs testing. just saves people some money if they wanna

I can see the benefit money wise. But id say the majority dont look after their cars or can tell if somethings up with it so they should leave it for every year.

You can't really compare a TUV test to an MOT test, for example... Unless the tests are a hell of a lot stricter it would not work, also, think how quickly Novas and Corsas can become rotton underneath. Not good.

Also, there was something on Paronama about the amount of foreign lorries coming over that were unsafe according to VOSA technicians. Is that not after 2 years of testing?
