Went to Long Eaton 24hr tesco on friday (quite a while ago i know, but not beed on CS), was about 11pm and when i left i forgot to put my lights on dont know why i forgot but i did.
Anyways, stuck them on about 30 seconds after setting off and headed home as usual, along Derby Road i think it was, then from somewhere there is a police riot van behind me (just driving, not responding) so wasnt as if i couldnt see him.
This road is a 30mph road and then turns into a 40mph where there is a big sign saying -

so i sped up to do the speed limit shortly after PASSING the sign.
Carried on driving as i was, doing the speed limit, then about 4-5 mins down the road he pulled me over
Wasnt sure why he pulled me over because id beed doing the speed limit.
He came up to the car window asked for ID blah blah blah, then said "started following you when you left tesco because you didnt have any lights on, but i saw you soon put them on. But i pulled you over because you were doing 40 along the maority of that road"
So i simply said "there was a 40mph sign"
To which i got a sharp "ive been working here for 10 years!!!.............but ill let you be on your way, just remember to put your lights on each time you set out"
im still mystified as to why he thought i would speed anyway, even more so when theres a huge police van behind me.
More than likely thought i was some chavvy boy racer
But i wont complain as he didnt do anything further, but still wasnt any point in pulling me over imo
Sorry about the essay, just felt like typing

why would you complain? ive been pulled over a few times in my car just for routine checks and ive never had any problems, i was just polite and showed him some ID etc. and he let me on my way.
i dont get why people feel they've been wronged for being pulled over, its their job

their job is to pull people over who are doing something wrong. If your just going about not doing anything wrong and you get pulled I dont see why you wouldnt get annoyed!

Nothing against haimsey but i heard driving without lights is 'doing something wrong' but we've all been there and done it. Funny how people criticise being pulled over then moan about people driving without insurance and being disqualified. i mean how else are they meant to do it?

The van can't do anything really. If it was a traffic patrol they would have probably pulled you over and breathalyzed you.
I got pulled over last night because my car had a sticky lock and it took me a second longer to unlock the door

yesh, but they said to me that they saw i put them on soon after
not as if i plan on going out driving without lights on all the time. first response should be "oh it was a mistake" not "ohhhhhhhh lets pull him over for forgetting to put his lights on because he must do it all the time"

i know it was a mistake, believe me ive done it. i just found your 'im not going to complain' comment a bit perplexing, the guy was going about the course of his job. Im not saying your a criminal and you deserve to be pulled over, i just cant see why people feel they've been dealt a great injustice being pulled over.

I got breathalised on Saturday night leaving a party
I've NEVER EVER Drunk alcohol in my ENTIRE Life but I still did as the officer said and was soon on my way. I didnt have anything to worry about as it was routine for him and I hadnt touch the booze.
Good to know the police are on their toes at the time of evening and at this time of year.

Firstly they can pull you over for doing nothing wrong......to check documents.
Secondly many people who have been drinking forget to put their lights on...he followed you to obseve your driving, then pulled you over and spoke to you to see if alcohol could be smelt
and yes of course he can do something even though he's not traffic!! he's a police officer, he can breathalyse you, and also funnnily enough arrest you. Prob didnt though as he could tell you hadnt been drinking

I doubt he could breathalise him.
He would have had to call his mates for that would he not?

I doubt that those vans carry breathalyzers. He would have to have rang up a traffic unit to do that.

its just that i know i wasnt for a fact. and he didnt radio through anywhere to check my documents. he just wanted "something with my name on it"

Yes he could and yes they do carry breathalisers.
No lights - Moving traffic offence = Power to ask for a specimen of breath under the Road Traffic Act.
Not being funny and not wanting to start an argument it's purely for information purposes.

Total Bollocks....peopel dont know what they are talking about.
Any police officer in uniform can stop any vehciel using the public highway WITHOUT reason.
Also any police constable in uniform can request a breath sample under section 6 RTA 1998 if
a. They suspect you have alchohol in your body
b. you have committed a moving road traffic offence
c. been involved in a road traffic accident

They've seen him without his lights on driving along a road at night they have pulled him over and given an opinion on the speed he was doing. We weren't there.
The reality is he has pulled him over because he thinks he may be drink driving had a chat, smelt no alcohol so sent him on his way. Perfectly reasonable course of action to take.

even if he said i was drinking he must have had a good nose because he was on the other side of the car
as i said im not bothered because he didnt do anything other than comment on my "speeding" and its happened now
its just the fact he pulled me knowing full well i had just set off from tesco, knew i had put my lights on not long at all after i left the actual car park of tesco and then still followed me for a considerable distance before actually doing anything
plus, wouldnt really expect a drink driver to be leaving tesco

If you are pished you will normally have the munchies...best place to get drunk drivers is at the nearest supermerket/garage when the pubs close.
In to the car...feeling hungry...all night shop...food....cops
