Quite interesting, gives tales from the winners & losers!!

Young lad 21yrs old sacked going to Uni to become a pro internet gambler & brings in $20-30k A MONTH

Also a very silly woman that had a bit of beginners luck then lost the lot, chased her losses & before she knew it had taken out 60k of credit on loans & cards - lost that then knicked £460k from the bank she worked in & lost that

Does any CS'ers have a gambling problem??? Ive never placed a bet in my life, asides the national lottery & work organised grand national sweepstake!!

My mum used to work for Bell Fruit, one of the big gaming machine operators at the time. She forbid any of us from going anywhere near gaming arcades. She says the amount of money those machines drew in from folk in a week was unbelievable

USA has banned all American credit cards from being used for onling betting transactions & them along with much of europe are arresting the owners of gambling sites for breaking the law...........UK on the other hand has passed a new law allowing them to operate from here & push it in our faces!! WTF are they trying to do to this country

I gamble, in fact I went to a Casino Friday night. I'm far from addicted though. It's fun and i'm in profit. Friday night for example cost me £1 due to my winnings paying for the night out. Took out £60, came home with £59 My Ladbrokes Online account is up by £150+ too. If I win I generally stop, rather than try win more.

Interesting ...

It highlights the truth... I know just what it's like to be on the winning and losing end of the screen.

The problem is, Unless you ever win enough to quit for ever, you will always put the money back in, to try to win more! and this will nearly ALWAYS = a Loser at the end.

This is the problem.

Even if I won £1000 on a single bet. in a months time (or less), I'd think hmm if I made a bet using my winnings I could double my money or more...

The thing is, sports betting (bookies) make their odds, so you either have to RISK a lot on something that's a likely event and thus not win much in return in proportion to amount being risked.

Or give you a chance to win a lot, on something that's never gonna happen.

Thus either way in the long run, your likely to lose. You'll either lose it constantly on the high odds, or lose it all at once when a dead cert goes bad.

Games like Roulette etc are Player Vs Casino and are all tilted to the Casino. You will lose eventually...

Poker is Player vs Player with the casino taking the stake... in theory this is random and up to luck, but people's greed will make most people put any winnings back into the game, then put more money in to try to get their money back.

Essentially... Gambling is not good. and if you can't afford the money your playing with, DON'T DO IT!

P.S I stopped playing online gambling over a year and a half ago.

I lost a bit, won a bit, lost a bit more... Then won a LOT. Then lost it all. Then lost some more trying to get it back.

Then swore to never touch it again.

^^ lee... Gamblers only ever tell of what they win and rarely what they lose. most of the time they're around the even mark. If worse.

He may of cashed out a grand, but I bet he's put in around the same amount over the long run. In short periods you can win money, in the long term you always put it back in.

Avoid it.

i know its uncommon but he's shit hot at poker and does win most of them time

My Dad's friend is always on US Poker sites and enters alot of Tournaments. Came 3rd out of 40,000 people on one Tournamnet and won himself a few grand. He's definately in profit but then he is good at poker and thats quite skillful.

Nath, the only skill in poker is reading your opponent and knowing what cards they have. Essentially the rest is down to luck, not skill.

In real games, you can see your opponent and thus can guage what they'll do far easier.

Essentially online, its far harder to do.

I could get 2 Aces and them be shit on the flop, or get two 2's and get another 2 2's on the flop and have four of a kind.

Most online players are raising before the flop, that's just luck, not skill as it's essentially trying to scare other players off from calling to see their hand (as no one knows how the game will go, until the flop, turn and river are dealt).

It is a skill to read and remember whats what. Reading how someone bets before they win/lose, then having to remember it. Especially when you don't have a face to look at or emotions to read. In my opinion anyway.
