Very sad story.
Absolutely nailed on to be the KGB in my humblest, but it'll never be said.

He had a shady past though, which isn't mentioned in that article.
Still no excuse, but I suppose, you mess with the KGB, you get hunted down.

He was Lieutenant-Colonel in the military and also worked as a counter-terrorism expert for the FSB (ex KGB) in very secret areas. But he went against the KGB/FSB top and also against the Kremlin esp the war in Chechnya and disclosed secret but illegal doucments of the FSB and the Kremlin. He seeked and was granted asylum in the UK in 1999 after escaping jail in Russia
Lately, he was investigating/providing intelligence in the murder of Anna Politkovskaya, journalist who was also against the Kremlin (esp the war in Chechnya)

Thats shady
I reckon he's took his own life in a country where the media would give a lot of attention to it. Now it brings the Kremlin into question about their dealings.

certainly is, i doubt Russia would have wanted a martyr for the cause on their hands.
I listened to an ex MI5 agent this morning which backed up my opinion, if the FSB had wanted him dead he wouldn't be lying in a hospital bed 17 days after meeting them with the ability to say 'the bastard's have got me' he would have been dead with no trace.

Yeh. I can imagine if they wanted to they could have made him disappear quite easily.
