Why not?
She will go through yours, and its still a fault claim on your account

because the paint would probably cost more than the car is worth, and it will be written off

Ah, I see
I've never found myself in that situation...but surely if you are going to lose your excess (im presuming that) its worth getting as much done to your motor as possible? just leaving you with the paint issue?
Sounds complicated...esp if you declared the paint

i have about £600 excess, and i wont have to pay that if a claim is made against me? only if i claim
so long as its only cosmetic i can fix it for less than that, if its got some structural damage then i'll have to see

You don't pay the excess. The excess is deducted from your claim payout.

Not if you are at fault...otherwise what is the point of an excess?

Yes jules is right, you pay the excess whatever, just happens that if you get a pay out the excess is deducted from this.
If the car was repaired you would pay the excess.

you pay the excess if you claim
if the 3rd party claims against you, she just pays her excess which will be refunded to her when its deemed not her at fault in regards to the accident, and your premium just goes up.
no doubt she may also go for personal injury claims too...

cant you just supply another bumper and bb bonnet? shouldnt cost 2 much you could even get the wings on the cheap, and just leave them to do the rest?
