Fingerprints at the roadside
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6170070.stm
If you have never committed an offence in your life your fingerprints won't be on record, and you can be damm sure that once they have your finger print on that hand held system they won't be deleted.
Just another way of keeping tabs on innocent people.
I hate this country more each waking hour.

you can refuse to give them on the roadside, but you then run the risk of being arrested...they have to have good reason to believe your not telling the truth about who you are though.

that's what I think too...
if someone you know got killed /raped etc and they managed to find who did it because they had their finger prints on record I'm sure people wouldnt be complaining

maybe its also an attempt to find criminals easier.
personally if you have done nothing wrong why on earth would you be bothered about the government/police having your fingerprints, not like they can do much with them.

Don't whinge when there is another terror attack in this country and it happened because there wasn't enough systems in place to keep track on potential people. It could be anything as small as a fingerprint from a roadside policeman to track someone.
As long as your civil liberties and an upstanding member of this country are kept in tact though eh?

There will always be someone wanting to do a terror plot or kill/rape someone.....
If they take finger printing to a requirement theives will just think of a way round it.
No point IMO

wont happen on a big scale IMO anyway.
what annoys me is that when my Fiesta was stolen a few years back they couldnt even be arsed to fingerprint the car when it was found, even though the officer on the scene said it was covered in prints and evidence.

How could a captured thief get around fingerprints?

Aye, good suggestion.
So should thieves and other people wish to get around technology they will have to do the following;
Burn their hands to avoid finger prints
Chop their ears off to avoid ear prints
remove their eyes to beat eye recognition
get rid of their own DNA. Possible cellotape their mouths shut to stop sulliver samples.
We should be rid of all thieves by this time next year.

You are missing the point.
DNA evidence has now proved to not be as accurate as it once was. (i think they now have a new way of testing that works i cant remember)
If fingerprint testing (which has been round since when 1800's?) is such a fool proof detection method then how come not every theif is caught?
There is a way around everything, theives are cleverer than you think.

I would refuse if I was randomly stopped & asked to provide my fingerprint.....then again they probably already have them!

Id refuse to give them simply because they have no reason to doubt who I am.
Id rather keep as much of my details off the system regardless of if I was going to do something or not.

There will always be one that slips through the system, what about some turd that comes straight off the boat from Pakistan, purchases the ingrediants for explosives then runs onto the nearest tube train and blows himself up, how the hell will fingerprints help in that situation? Not at all.
Its just bollocks setup by foolish big wigs in parliament playing with their testicles whilst thinking up ways to piss off the general population.
Crap.

You fools, what if the system fcuks up one day and your details are mixed up with a convicted murderer thats escaped from prison, you get pulled over by the Police, they finger print you and your arrested on the spot?
Or you apply for credit or get a mortgage and your details get mixed up with someone thats been put away for fraud?
You'll be the ones moaning that your details were on the system in the first place without even commiting a crime.
