hmm never played source, ive been playing 1.6 on and off for about 2 years now 
i only really started getting 'good' about half a year ago. mainly to do with things like controlling recoil and burst fire. i never buy anything other than deagle, defuse, ammo, armour, flash/he and ak/colt. binding is a good way to speed up play. what kind of things let you down at the moment?

I play source aswell 
I started playing about 6 months ago, and when I first started, I would go a game, without getting a kill, now its different.
Some tips:
-Play with sound turned up. Sounds stupid,but if you walk, and they are running, you hear them. Can help ALOT.
-When you shoot, take into account the recoil, especially with the AK47. Spray & Pray, will get you no where, short bursts are better.
-Always be ready to fire, around every corner there could be an enemy, don't run around thinking there isn't anyone near you. because 9 times out of 10 there will be someone close, and they will pick you off, if you aren't ready.
-Use flashbangs, that's the best advice really, it can help you get kills, just make sure, to throw, then wait UNTIL it's gone off. I see so many people throw it, then run after it like a dog  If you flashed someone directly, at a guess, I would say you have maybe 10 seconds+ to kill them.
-Crouch, its easier to shoot at an enemy's 'vital' spot.
-Make sure you rates are ok, if you have about 2mb BB, in the console, type 'rate 20000' and hit enter
-Also in console, type cl_updarate 101 then hit enter, then type in cl_cmdrate 101 and hit enter. This is for your tickrate, its set so high, that any server you play on, you will have maximum tickrate.
Not sure if that will help you, but it seems to have helped me improve my game

-if your that shit, dont be the first or second person to rush in, let someone else do it, take the enemy down on health and you finish them off.
will take practice and confidence, dont go out, just stay in your bedroom and play

I agree with that, don't assume you have to rush, hold back, and just wait for the majority of people to be killed.

my friends play on office so been playing on that to get to know the map,
cheers for the tips, hopefully when i get more natural on the countrols it will help.
been spraying a preying alot so i'll stop doing that and see how it goes!

Stick with Office. Best.Map.Ever I always play that map, im an admin on a 40 man server. Most of the tips that I have mentioned, will be best put into practice on Office, as there are lots of corridors to Flash etc.

Dont be afraid of dying, sound is ur best key to the game, use headphones.
Practise DOES make perfect, you need to know ur way around the maps backwards, whilst flashed.
