8.1 mp in a sensor that size will be noise central.
Less is more on a p&s.

Indeed, and one thing everyone seems to overlook. All the pixels thing is about is the image size. I think my phone takes something like 2 Mega Pixel pictures, but the quality is crap. My camera goes up to 5.1, but I think it's just so you can show off to other people. I only ever take 1 Mega Pixel shots as they look the best. Plus, anything else is too big for my screens...

More pixels are good in general up to a certain amount.
I always take pictures at as high a res as possible.
But on cameras like that iwth tiny sensors when you get to 5+ mp there is less and less light getting to every pixel.
One thing you need for pictures is light.
