was a VW of some description; predated the scirroco shape but was a 2 door coupe/hatch design. Could well have been the predesessor* to the Scirroco

It was one of the *Storm* special models according to the badging, but I couldn't make out the model badge.
IIRC it was pre 'A' reg as well

if it helps anyone it was driving down Portmadog high street yesterday afternoon

Yeah was scirroco mk1 and mk2 that would be the mk one.

Wasnt a scirroco and it pre-dated 'A'-reg
as in reg was something along the layout of "ABC 123D"

front definately wasn't either shape scirroco; and incidently there appears to have been a scirroco Storm which I hadnt realised

no definately wasn't a Karmann; i'd have known that

It was a similar shape to the Scirroco/Corrado but seemed a bit more curved or at least some of the edges were more rounded

the only thing I'm not sure on is the rear window on the scirroco; the rear windows looked more like those on the passat with the angular cut out??? unless it was an old school mod; passat with scirroco front end

the only storms they made are a corrado and scirroco

going on the reg it would be a scirroco

in that case it was a passat; the rear side windows were the same as that in the picture you posted so I'm guessing the Storm badge was a stick on
