Depending on your insurance company, I would say as a guide.
Backbox - little effect
Springs - maybe 10%

Some companies use a 10% per mod others differ, its best to call and ask before you do it If you dont declare you may as well not be paying as it will invalidate the insurance if they find out.

it's worth calling 1st just to find out how much the springs will add to your insurance, 'cus when i phoned frizzels about my spoiler they said they'd add 250 quid to my insurance. though i doubt it'll be that much for lowering springs.

In fairness Andy, you're old enough to own a car...so you should be responsible and have the know how to own one legally whilst on the road.

(as said before) have a little ding in your car and you *might* just get away with it if the claims assessor

A/. Doesn't turn up to look at your car

or

B/. Has a case of short term blindness if he does turn up.

However, if you knock a pedestrian over and kill them (or worse seriously disable them)....expect a very large portion of the rest of your lfetime wages paying off a very hefty settlement package.

In short...declare your mods. If you can't afford the insurance hike don't mod the car.

Simple really isn't it

My only mod is an £80 stereo which I haven't declared - with a bit of luck the windows won't get smashed so I only have to pay the excess and I am sure a CD player won't make a difference to liklihood of accident.

Going to check policy come to mention it, think I remember seeing £100 covered for stereos etc.

not proud of this by any means but when i crashed my corsa, 1.2 8v I had added a GSI spoiler full peco exhaust system and my MOT had ran out by a week (completely forgot) and they still paid out

I had to take my allloys off before they came to access my car though

I would not tell them about the backbox but springs will affect ride and possible handling so they may pull you up on this if you ever had a crash
