i'm trying to write a covering letter for a job application in response to an advert in my local paper, but i havent had to apply for a job for nearly 5 years and haven't got a clue what to write, or how to sell myself.
does anyone know anywhere/ have any good cover letter samples / templates? i have tried google but all i get is sites charging to write for me or job adverts. All help muchly appreciated.

If its a similar job you have been doing for 5 yrs tell them that...but dont go too indepth...this will make them more interested in reading your CV. If you write a load of crap it will go straight in the bin!!

thats the thing. i have been a prison officer for 2 yrs, and before that i worked in retail. i am now trying to get an assistant managers job for Aldi. Both the jobs ive done recently have been by application form, so never really had to write a covering letter before. my mrs is great at them, but i want to get this done and posted today.
