Nan was taken in with this earlier in the week, started out as a sore throat, then on sunday she just collapsed. Shes been in like a coma ever since, she was given 50/50 chances, but as ther has been no change in her condition ie. no deterioration, then we are a little more optimistic now.
Anyone ever seen anyone with meningitis? scary shit

I was vaccinated against it. Simple solution to a potentially lethal disease.
Its worth considering mate. Hope your Nan's ok

no we deffo had a meningitis and a TB one earlier on in school, i remember it. I never had to have the TB jab as on the test it showed i had a natural immunity to it.

yesh, prior to the TB, you had a heath test.....if the area you were pricked inflamed you are naturally immune

My next door neighbour in Uni was rushed into hospital with meningococcal septicaemia, had to have the full works (spinal-tap, etc), was in hospital for a month or so, but made a full recovery...
The doctors reckon it was because we noticed the symptoms quite early on that gave him a decent chance of pulling through it (he came down to dinner one day with the blotches on his arms, and complaining of a massive headache and lethargy, said he was going back to his room to sleep but we grabbed the on-site nurse who called for an ambulance on seeing him).
Everyone who'd been in contact with him had to have the HUGE tablets, just in case, but all was OK in the end, thankfully...

If you had Meningitis vaccination at school it would have been the Meningococcal-C vaccine which will only protect against Meningococcal Meningitis-C. There is a vaccine for Pneumococcal disease, one type of which is now given to babies (from the start of September) but AFAIK it hasn't been given as a routine vaccination before in this country.
