...what did you do with yours?
i know they're sposed to be for "uni expenses, fees etc." but almost everyone i know spends it on going out clothes etc.
some people i know have already spent their loan within 3/4 weeks of being at uni unlucky!!
tempted to spend mine on my car,as never had enough money to afford much for it,so now might be the time to splash out a bit with whats left of my loan .good or bad idea ya reckon?not bothered about paying it off after i finish uni so might just enjoy it now.

fee's are handled seperately from the original 'loan'
you get
Tuition Fee Contribution
Student Loan (for accomodation, living, etc)
Grants (if your lucky)
I just blow mine on shit & have a part time job to pay the rent

1st year i blew 3.3k on betting drink and clothes.
2nd year i bought a car with 3.3k and added the rest
3rd year i spent 5.5k abroad on a placement from uni. Nothing to show for it except 2 credit cards I brought back with me.
4th year - 1st loan has gone on a shiny new monster computer. 2nd loan in jan is going on holidays to New York and back to Dubai. 3rd loan in april may go on something productive, but it's doubtful.

Why not use it for what its meant for?
And how about having a bit of respect for the tax payers in this country that actually provide you with this luxury?

well i have used what its meant for,i'm talking about using the extra left over, and as far as i'm aware i'll be paying it all back with interest so don't worry about the tax payers

in the grand scheme of things, your individual taxes are paying for very little of students loans, something insignificant like a few pence a month from your taxes go towards student surport.
Your taxes are used for many reasons most of which you use/rely on every single day.
Student loans have to be paid back, they rise with interest so whats the problem.
People who used student loans will pay more tax in the long, as opposed to people who didn't go to uni, obviously thats generalized greatly.
And i havnt spent any of my student loan its in a high interest savings account, my living costs are paid from my job in asda.

Not wishing for an arguement here...
But what does that matter? It was your choice to go back to Uni so why make that comment?
However.
It does piss me off about all (most) of the people i know (now out of Uni) moaning about student debt...when they pissed their loan over a bar or on a car...they racked up the debt on a jolly at uni, and there are enough posts about drinking exploits on here to back that statement up

no this is the first time I went to uni, the reason being I wanted to better my career prospects from the current 'it support dead end' roll i was in...
I dont care about paying it back, tbh its worth it in the long run if you actually work towards getting the degree you set out to get!
my loan so far has gone on repaying current debts, living costs, and sorting out equipment i need for doing the course (laptop, pc, etc...)
the omega and corsa I fund from my job, aswell as accomodation...
but I may end up using my loan tho for sorting the corsa, or fixing the omega, if required.

*groan*
Yeah...but most do.
And when this post originator graduates they will be moaning about their debt..not the fact that they spunked it on a car and beer as opposed to the real reason the loan was made in the first place.
Sad but true

not at all,i plan on working and doing other things during uni to pay off my loan as i go along.and i don't tend to go out every night spending shit loads on drink etc,im careful with my money, just as i happen to have money from my loan to hand was just thinking of using it now rather than later

the fact that we stay on at uni is purely for a job at the end of the day and hopefully a high paid one at that (unlikey)
my student loan will get paid back, they will make sure of that! i spent most of mine on my car how else could i cheer myself up from day to day boredom and depression of uni life lol
