cost me £100 compulsory basic training (CBT) then you can either do DAS (direct access to any bike capacity) or A1 (restricted to 33hp for a year then automatically get your full pass to any capacity bike)
DAS/A1 usually cost about £300ish unless you can find an instructor to do it day-by-day like i did... id been riding for about 10years before i got onto a road bike so only took 3 lessons, ie £30

A1 is restricted for two years, and if you are under 21 you HAVE to do this test

no you don't. Once you are 17 you can ride a 125 on a CBT and L plates. (if you've got a full car licence)

thats right, but if you want a full licence you have to take the test and be restricted to 33bhp for two years, i did it when i was 17, so in may i can ride any thing! well what ever i can insure!

Thats very clean for a dirt bike!!

I looked at an RVF when I got my licence, felt too small after learning on an ER-5. Cool bike though.

i paid £250 for a full days training from 9.00 till 4.00 then a mornings training and my test, this included the price of the test and the hire of the bike!

if you havent ever ridden a bike before i would reccommend you do your CBT, ride about on a 50cc or 125cc for a while depending on your age then do your test as you will learn alot about riding in a few days and then alot in a few weeks if you are sensible!

Presume its not like learning to drive a car where the instructor provides the vehicle?

Have to buy a bike yourself to learn on?

the local site i went on was something like www.artofmotorcycling.com or co.uk or something like that. Is down as £300 for a 125cc/ cbt+8hrs+bik test.
im told you do that and then you gota wait 2yrs til u can take the 500 test for the bigger bikes

You can do direct access after your 21 (jump onto any bike)

I have riden other bikes before but would need about 6 hours lesson time I reckon.

Will look into it anyway.

It definately aint cheap

My mate passed and had a 400, I rode it and immedietely did my test, then five other of my mates did it, didnt tell them costs until they started doing lessons

2 x 2hour lessons £120!!
1 x hazards awareness and theory £20 (ish)
1 x test £50
I used their bike at a cost of an hour = £30

Decent helmet - £250 minimum
Gloves - £80
Leathers - £180
Boots - £150

Then you have to buy the bike although running costs arent normally much!

You can pay a lot more or less on the safety gear, got a lot of mine in the deals at the NEC bike show, which aint far away now role on!!
