Just seen a laptop with a free double memory offer this week, so thought great - ill buy it now, using the 9month free credit option to buy it, and payoff next year.

thing is, as ive never taken out a loan/credit card before - I've got no credit history, and I can't get approved.

Colleague suggested taking out a credit card - buying the laptop with that, and pay that off. Apparently I could shop around and find a credit card with 9month interest free blah blah blah, is this a good idea?

Once i've paid off the credit card, obviously I will have got myself a rating, and will stand good in the future for this sort of thing.

I'd prefer not to get a credit card though, as im a weakling when it comes to temptation

Any Ideas?

I've currently got a Visa Debit card, but apparantly that makes no contribution to my credit rating

Have you applied for the 9 months interest free credit on the laptop? You wont know until you try it. If you cant get it then look at your other options after that,

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/cards/cardsresults.asp

theres a few on there for 10 month 0% on purchases.
But like some one said you might not get that when you apply, however im sure you can get at least 6 month intrest free.

Make sure you pay it off before 0% runs out though, but then again its the same thing with credit for "buy now pay later", once the 9 months is up you end up paying 18.9% apr any way, a lot of people overlook this fact.

A debit card would not contribute to your credit rating, Visa, Switch debit etc is just the same as paying with cash.

Jim

i'm with ssj_kakarot on this, get yourself a 0% credit card for 9 months of whatever. Should you not be able to pay it off before the 9 months simply get another one and transfer the balance

Translates into:

'I don't think so, none of my clothes even resemble a chav'

and

'No, don't wear chav clothes'

That is all.

society is too hung up on material things imo, we should skin animals and wear them, also make shoes from wood

people would be much happier this way
